POTEAT MEDLEY: Businesswoman, Community Advocate
RR: How long have you lived in Ridgeland, Ms. Medley? Are you a native?
MS. MEDLEY: I'm from Jackson but I have lived in Ridgeland since 2005.
RR: What do you for a living?
MS. MEDLEY: I work for Conduent in Ridgeland (formerly known as Xerox) as a Customer Capabilities Supervisor.
RR: Tell us about your family and where you all live, please.
MS. MEDLEY: My husband is Kenny Medley, Sr. and I have a son, Kenny Medley, II. I'm also the proud "GiGi "to Khloe Medley who is six years old. We live in an area that is known as "The Bird Lanes." It's a neighborhood off of Old Agency Parkway.
RR: Do you have a favorite thing, or things, about our City?
MS. MEDLEY: I would have to say the walking trails and the Renaissance. Love them both!
RR: You recently ran for political office: What did you run for, why did you decide to enter the arena and what was the experience like?
MS. MEDLEY: Yes, I ran for Alderman At Large. I decided to run for office because the City of Ridgeland is becoming more diverse everyday and I feel our leadership should be the same. I'm not only speaking about race but party affiliation, gender, and economic differences. I truly feel that diversity and inclusion in leadership promotes growth and allows all voices to be heard.
RR: Will you ever consider doing it again?
MS. MEDLEY: There's a great possibility I will run again, absolutely.
RR: Can you give us any amusing anecdotes from the campaign trail?
MS. MEDLEY: It would have to been the time my best friend Erin was canvassing with me and she saw an elderly resident sitting on the porch. She went to talk to her and noticed the lady had a goose in her yard as a pet. Erin thought the goose would attack her. It was so funny! That resident made our day. She said no candidate had ever come to talk to her before and it warmed her heart.
RR: What do you think could make our already great City even better? Be as specific as you can.
MS. MEDLEY: As I stated earlier, a more diverse City government and returning some blighted property to productive use which, I do know, the city has been working very hard to do so.
